Google Business Profile optimisation
Your Google Business Profile is the listing customers see when they search on Google Maps: your name, rating, photos, hours and the button to call you. For most local searches it is the first thing people see — often before your website.
Google decides which businesses to show at the top of Maps based on relevance, distance and prominence. A profile with the wrong categories or missing details gives Google less reason to show yours.
What I do
- Choose your main category, and only the additional categories that genuinely fit. Too many dilutes what Google thinks you do.
- List your services, each with a short description, so you can appear for the specific things people search for — not just your main category.
- Write your business description within Google’s rules: up to 750 characters, no links, no promotions.
- Add your booking or contact link, opening hours, service area and every other field Google offers for your category.
- Keep the profile active with fresh photos and regular updates.
- Compare your profile with the businesses currently ranking above you, so every change is based on what is working in your area.
No profile yet?
I will help you set one up. If you work from home or travel to your customers, it can be set up as a service-area business, with your address hidden and the areas you serve shown instead.
